Music
“Subway trains driving east at dawn.”
I began my music career as a classical pianist in New York, recognized with the NYSSMA Allstate award. After several years in the classical and theatre scene, I emerged with Boston rock bands Famous People, and The Five, before embarking on my solo singer/songwriter career. I’ve also sat in on rare occasion with Tom Ashton and Plague.
I’ve played throughout North America for the past several years. I originally hail from New York, spent years in and around Boston, Massachusetts, and now make my home in the Pacific Northwest near Seattle.
Some of my singles are available now, with more coming soon.
Q&A with Apple Music, 2025
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
When U2 was on their Zoo TV tour, we thought there was an opening act so we didn't rush or look at a floor plan, as the lights dimmed. Security rushed us from parking lot to center row 2 just as Bono started. One of my most rock star moments ever.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums today, and why?
Right now, this week?
Bruce Springsteen, Nebraska - spare and haunting - just guitar harmonica & voice recorded at home on cassette.
Radiohead, OK Computer - Radiohead at their peak powers with pop, rock, and avant-garde all blending to create something new.
The Beatles, A Hard Day's Night - A blaze of unadorned pure Lennon/McCartney songwriting.
What's one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
It was synchrony the first time I was recognized in public - on the subway- by someone who'd seen me play in Cambridge. They knew my lyrics and how the song spoke to them. Better than applause.
What's a song of yours that's special to you?
Lyrically, Can't Wait came to me when I was reading tons of short stories - especially Jhumpa Lahiri, Raymond Carver and Richard Ford. The storytelling is rooted in those moods, and has virtually nothing to do with me personally. (Which has surprised some people who've offered me condolences after a live performance!). I'm proud of the craft, especially the line "her boxes were packed but they had no address"
Sonically, I was also experimenting with alternate tunings, and the music just fell into place in minutes. I'm hoping to experiment more with performing it in piano and new rhythms in 2025.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist?
I've been known for guitar but my first love and best instrument is piano. In 2025, I'm hoping to revisit some of my prior work and led into a new cycle of stories told through voice and piano.
